Indications and resutls of totalthyroidectomy for treatment basedow’s disease at national hospital of endocrinology

Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the indications and result of totalthyroidectomy for Basedow‟s disease in 55 patients from 5/2017 to 12/2017. The mean age of the patients was 41 years old. 90% patients were women, and 55,5% patients had medical treatment for Basedow‟s disease for more than 2 years. Results: Indications for corrective surgery included nodular goiter (40%), failure of medical treatment (14,5%), big goiter (12,7%), exophthalmos (20%), complications concerned withmedicaltreatment (12,7%). Postoperatively, temporary hypocalcemia was seen in 16,4% of the patients. No complication involved recurrence, bleeding, hematoma was seen.The surgical result wasgood in 94.5%, overage in 5,5%. Corrective surgical therapy is one of the options that provided good long-term results with few complications.*
