Midterm results of endovascular treatment of ateriovenous fistula stenosis at Dong Nai General Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: AVF stenosis is a common complication, leading to impaired dialysis function, increased risk of occlusion and increased mortality. Endovascular intervention treatment of AVF stenosis is an important technique in the management of dialysis patients, particularly at local hospitals.
Methods: This is a retrospective study performed at Dong Nai general hospital from 2022-2024.
Results: The success rate of endovascular intervention to treat AVF stenosis at Dong Nai General Hospital is 91%, 3-month primary patency was 93.1% and 6-month primary patency was 86.2%. Drug-coated balloons (DCB) shows superior effectiveness compared to conventional balloons (PBA) with a lower restenosis rate.
Conclusion: Endovascular intervention to treat AVF stenosis at Dong Nai General Hospital has good short term and midterm results. Drug-eluting balloons have a statistically significantly lower mid-term restenosis rate than conventional balloons. Implementing this technique at provincial hospitals helps reduce the burden on central hospitals and reduce medical costs for chronic kidney failure patients requiring hemodialysis.
