Abstract

Objective: Goal of this study is to assess the knowledge of stroke prevention and risk factors among hypertensive and diabetic outpatients at Hanoi Heart Hospital.

Subjects and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 300 patients in 2023.

Results: The results showed that the mean knowledge scores were 2.2 ± 3.3 for risk factors, 2.6 ± 2.5 for symptom recognition, 8.7 ± 1.2 for preventive measures, and 6.69 ± 1.6 for initial response at home. The proportion of patients with adequate knowledge regarding prevention and first response was 87.7% and 77.7%, respectively, whereas knowledge of risk factors and symptoms remained low.

Conclusion: The findings indicate that patients still lack essential knowledge in key areas necessary for early detection and complication reduction in stroke, highlighting the need to strengthen health counseling and community education efforts.
