Abstract

Abstract: Extracranial carotid artery aneurysm (ECAA) is a condition with low morbidity but often causes serious clinical events. If not diagnosed and treated promptly, ECAA can cause major complications such as rupture and embolism,... leading to a very high risk of death. Aneurysms are often differentiated into true aneurysms, pseudoaneurysms, and arterial dissections. The causes of ECAA are very diverse, ranging from atherosclerosis to infection and trauma. The disease usually presents with a pulsating mass in the neck, pain, and/or central or peripheral nervous system manifestations. Both surgical and endovascular treatments have been used in the past decades. However, depending on the accessibility of the carotid artery and the lack of evidence-based guidelines, choosing a treatment method for ECAA is a challenge for clinicians. The location, cause, and characteristics of the aneurysm combined with previous experience are important factors that determine the choice of optimal intervention strategy. Therefore, Hybrid surgery is a treatment of choice for complex carotid artery aneurysms.

We report a case of Hybrid surgery to treat a large internal carotid artery aneurysm, extending to the intracranial segment. Diagnostic methods and treatment indications are discussed based on previously published data.
