Case report: tracheal stent placement in a patient with tracheal stenosis due to metastatic esophageal cancer
Main Article Content
Abstract
Overview: In esophageal cancer, tracheal stenosis is a rare complication, often seen in late-stage esophageal cancer or after chemotherapy or radiotherapy. There are many methods in the treatment of tracheal stenosis including: tracheal dilation, bronchial surgery, tracheal stent. This is a severe case, respiratory failure, life-threatening risk. Endoscopic stent placement has many advantages such as being gentle, simple, fast-acting and having few complications.
Case report: A 47-year-old male patient, with a medical history: lower 1/3 esophageal cancer, underwent esophagectomy at E Hospital. This patient was admitted to the hospital due to difficulty breathing, CT scan showed tracheal metastasis causing tracheal stenosis. The patient underwent tracheal endoscopy to remove the tumor and place a tracheal stent. After the intervention, the patient was stable.
Conclusion: Tracheal stenosis is an emergency condition that needs to be treated promptly. CT is the gold standard for diagnosis. Using bronchoscopy to remove tumor and place tracheal stent, is a less invasive method, less impact on patients.
