Rare complications after surgical aortic valve replacement
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: late complications following surgical aortic valve replacement are very rare, with the exception of infective endocarditis. We report 6 cases of dissection, pseudoaneurysm, and non-infectious para-valvular leakage occurring after aortic valve replacement.
Methods: A retrospective review was conducted on cases with late complications following surgical aortic valve replacement from 2022 to 2024 at the Ho Chi Minh City Heart Institute.
Results: The study recorded one case of aortic dissection, one case of pseudoaneurysm associated with aortic fistulisation, and four cases of non-infectious para-valvular leakage. All patients underwent reoperation with good outcomes. There were no deaths or major complications.
Conclusion: Long-term follow-up after aortic valve replacement is essential to ensure early detection and timely treatment of these rare late complications.
