Results of thoracoscopic lobectomy in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer‑related mortality in Vietnam. Thoracoscopic lobectomy has emerged as a standard minimally invasive technique for early‑stage non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Objective: To assess perioperative outcomes and postoperative results of thoracoscopic lobectomy for NSCLC at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital.
Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted on 39 patients diagnosed with NSCLC who underwent thoracoscopic lobectomy between 2023 and 2025. Clinical characteristics, operative parameters, and postoperative outcomes were analyzed.
Results: The cohort included 23 males and 16 females, with a mean age of 56.2 years (38–73). Mean operative duration was 140 ± 30.1 minutes, and mean intraoperative blood loss was 150 ± 87.3 ml. Postoperative hospital stay averaged 6 ± 1.2 days. Complications included prolonged air leak (2.6%) and pleural effusion (5.1%). No re‑operations were required.
Conclusion: Thoracoscopic lobectomy is a safe and effective approach for NSCLC, demonstrating low complication rates and favorable recovery profiles. It should be considered a standard surgical option for appropriately selected patients.
