Results of kidney transplantation at Thong Nhat Hospital

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the early outcomes of kidney transplantation at Thong Nhat Hospital.
Subject and method: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted on 26 patients who underwent kidney transplantation at Thong Nhat Hospital from 2022 to 2025. Variables analyzed included donor and recipient characteristics, surgical technique, graft function, early complications, and hospital stay.
Results: The mean age of recipients was 36.7 years (16–61), with equal distribution between males and females (50% each). Living donor transplants accounted for 77%, and deceased donor transplants 23%. All patients had immediate urine output after transplantation. The mean hospital stay for recipients was 10 ± 2.3 days (7–20). Mean serum creatinine 5 days post-transplant was 92.5 µmol/L. Regarding vascular anatomy, 92.3% of grafts had a single renal artery and 100% had a single renal vein. Early complications included two cases of JJ stent migration and five cases of urinary tract infection. No acute rejection episodes or mortality were observed.
Conclusion: Short-term results of kidney transplantation at Thong Nhat Hospital demonstrated favorable early outcomes, with rapid recovery of graft function, low complication rates, and no mortality and no acute rejection.
