Abstract

The first success of human heart transplantation was performed by Barnard in 1967. To date, heart transplantation is consided as a current treatment for patients with end-stage heart failure. In recent years, bicaval orthotopic cardiac transplantation leaving the right atrium intact has been introduced into clinical practice as an alternative to the standard method of biatrial technique. We present our first heart transplantation performed by bicaval technique in
Hue Central Hospital. Possible additional advantages include a decreased incidence of tricuspid regurgitation, fewer atrial arrhythmias, and improved atrial contractile function
