Abstract

Overview: Secondary Aorto-enteric fistula (sAEF) is a serious complication after open abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair, diagnosis and treatment are the sacraments for a vascular surgeons.

Objectives: Describe the patient’s characteristics and treatment results of a series of clinical cases diagnosed with Secondary Aorto-enteric Fistula after surgery to open abdominal aortic aneurysm repair..

Methods: A clinical case series.

Results: Report on 3 clinical cases of Secondary Aorto-enteric Fistula admitted to the hospital due to gastrointestinal bleeding, underwent surgery to completely remove the graft infection, restore the intestinal fistula, perform extra-anatomic bypass (axillary-bifemoral), the results showed one patient died early postoperatively due to multiple organ failure, two patients had stable postoperative progress and were discharged.

Conclusions: Secondary Aorto-enteric Fistula is a rare complication, diagnosis and treatment are often very difficult, early surgery to remove the graft, performing extra-anatomic bypass is an effective method, helping to reduce the mortality rate.
