Abstract
Objective: Evaluation of Early and Mid-Term Outcomes of Mitral Valve Surgery at Thu Duc City Hospital.
Subjects and methods: A retrospective, descriptive case series of patients who underwent mitral valve surgery at Thu Duc City Hospital from December 2017 to June 2022.
Results: 55 patients underwent mitral valve surgery, with 65% receiving valve replacement and 35% undergoing valve repair. The average age was 46.9 ± 13.4 years, with 65% being female. The average durations for cardiopulmonary bypass and aortic cross-clamping were 106.1 ± 23.9 minutes and 69.5 ± 16.0 minutes, respectively. The median durations for mechanical ventilation, ICU stay, and postoperative hospital stay were 14 hours (7-19), 29 hours (26-47), and 14 days (17-27), respectively. Early results: The rate of no paravalvular leak was 97.2% for valve replacement, and the rate of no or mild regurgitation was 94.7% for valve repair. There were no cases of mortality within the first 30 days post-surgery. Mid-term results: The average mid-term follow-up duration was 42.4 ± 18.8 months. The mid-term mortality rate was 9.1%, and the Kaplan-Meier survival rates at 2 and 5 years were 96.2% and 80.4%, respectively. The rate of reoperation for mitral valve was 1.8%.
Conclusion: Mitral valve surgery at Thu Duc City Hospital has been performed safely and effectively based on early and mid-term results.
