Results of totally endoscopic resection surgery for atrial myxomas at E Hospital

Abstract
Objective: Totally endoscopic surgery has been widely employed in cardiac surgery. This study sought to summarize the outcomes of totally endoscopic atrial myxoma resection surgery at E Hospital.
Subjects and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted in all consecutive patients who underwent totally endoscopic atrial myxoma resection surgery from January 2019 to January 2024 at E Hospital.
Results: A total of 54 patients were enrolled, with a mean age of 52.8 ± 14.9 years and a female-to-male ratio of 4,4:1. Myxomas were found in both atria, predominantly in the left atrium (81.5%). Totally endoscopic surgery was successfully operated in all cases, with no conversions to sternotomy. The mean cardiopulmonary bypass time was 136.5 ± 41.7 minutes, and the mean aortic cross-clamp time was 75,8 ± 28,8 minutes. The mean intensive care unit length of stay was 2.1 ± 1.7 days, and the mean postoperative hospital length of stay was 9,5 ± 5,2 days. Early complications included several cases of atrial arrhythmia, but no major complications or mortality were observed. Follow-up at 6 to 69 postoperative months revealed no all-cause mortality and no recurrence of myxoma. Minor complications were effectively treated and managed.
Conclusion: Totally endoscopic surgery for atrial myxomas demonstrated high therapeutic efficacy, with no major complications, no mortality, and no recurrence during medium-term follow-up.
