Abstract

Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics, indications, and early outcomes of bronchoplastic surgery for post-tuberculosis bronchial stenosis at the National Lung Hospital. Patients and methods A retrospective review of medical records with a cross-sectional descriptive design without a control group was conducted. Data were collected through research medical records and follow-up evaluation files after treatment for 24 patients who underwent bronchoplastic surgery at the National Lung Hospital from 2010 to 2025.

Results: The mean age was 35.82 ± 16.68 years (range: 10–42 years), with a male-to-female ratio of 9 (37.5%) to 15 (62.5%). All patients underwent endotracheal general anesthesia. The mean operative time was 238.6 ± 72.6 minutes (range: 180–480 minutes). The mean duration of chest drainage was 5.9 ± 3.1 days (range: 3–20 days), and the mean postoperative hospital stay was 13.2 ± 5.3 days (range: 7–22 days). The complication rate (20.8%), and good surgical outcomes were achieved in 79,2% of cases.

Conclusion: Bronchoplastic surgery is a safe and effective treatment for severe post-tuberculosis bronchial stenosis. Both meticulous bronchial anastomosis techniques and careful postoperative follow-up play crucial roles in achieving successful surgical outcomes.
