Abstract

112 high risk surgical patients from our hospital were recruited for this study. Their postoperative hemodynamic parameters were monitored in short intervals using a Swan-Ganz catheter. From the results collected, a ROC curve of SVO2 was plotted to evaluate its prognostic performance for patients’ likelihood of mortality within 30 days after being admitted to intensive care unit (ICU). Results: The best cut-off SVO2 value for predicting post-operative complications related to heart failure and likelihood of mortality within 30 days in high risk cardiac surgical patients was 55% with a sensitivity of 91.18% and specificity of 31.82%. No mortality case was reported in this study. Conclusions: A SVO2< 55% at the time of admitting to ICU indicates poor prognosis for high risk cardiac surgical patients. This agrees with the results from a previous study on patients operated for coronary diseases.
