Abstract

Abstract: Simultaneous heart and kidney transplantation is quite a popular type of multiorgan transplant in the world, considered an optimum treatment for end stage cardiorenal syndrome. This report presents first successful simultaneous heart-kidney transplant in Vietnam. A 37-year-old male patient with 10 years of chronic disease: end-stage heart failure due to dilated cardiomyopathy with 15-25% of left ventricular systolic function, and renal failure due to IgA nephropathy completely depended on dialysis. The patient underwent a simultaneous heart-kidney transplant from a brain-dead multiorgan donor on February 15, 2023 at Viet Duc University hospital. He had quick recovery of all cardiac and renal functions on 5 days afters transplant. This is the 2nd successful case of multiorgan transplant at Viet Duc hospital, but the first heart-kidney transplantation.
